According to Henriette and Lydia Gould, because of August J. Brose's asthmatic condition, he was advised to settle further south, so the John Cyrus Gould and August J. Brose families moved to Oklahoma in the autumn of 1903. The two families bought ranches from land rush developers near Muskogee, Oklahoma. The John Cyrus Gould family returned to Wisconsin in the autumn of 1910 because Julius P. Gould wanted them to return to take over the farm in Hartford. The Broses remained in Oklahoma.
