Elena was survived by her children: Carlos A. Montoya (wife Grace), Frank P. Montoya (wife Jean), Angie P. Dawson (husband Bill), Lydia J. Cote (husband Ray), and Eileen P. Montoya-Henz (husband Jim); grandchildren: Rachel Greene (husband Colt), Christine Trujillo (husband Jason), Jacob Montoya, Andy Montoya, Melissa Cote, Janelle Cote, Lucas Baca, Samantha Henz, and James Henz; great-grandson Emery Greene; sisters: Juanita Martinez and Tessie Griego; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Elena, a native of Pagosa Springs moved as a young child to Española to live with her grandmother after her father passed away. Elena later moved to live and work in Santa Fe where she met Edras at Bruns VA Hospital. They married and lived for a short while in Socorro, eventually moving to Albuquerque where they built their home and raised their family. They were active members of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church for 63 years. Elena's family was very dear to her, and her main focus. Elena was a member of the Legion of Mary, Sacred Heart Altar Society and the Blue Army. Elena loved to cook, bake, and can for her family and friends and was known for her apple pie. Elena and Edras valued education, ensuring all their children graduated from college. Elena was the "wind beneath their wings" for her entire family. Elena was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Visitation and Rosary were at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 802 Broadway Blvd SE, Albuquerque, on March 7, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial was on March 8, 2012 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Interment followed at Santa Fe National Cemetery
