CHARLES TAYLOR, FORMER WEIGHT INSPECTOR, DIES
Charles E. Taylor, 63, retired weight inspector for the Missouri State Highway Patrol and father of *Mayor Gene Taylor of Sarcoxie, died at 2:30 this morning at the family home a half mile north of Sarcoxie.
He had suffered from a heart condition for some time, but had not been confined to his bed. He and Mrs. Taylor attended a wedding yesterday afternoon at Dudman Springs Presbyterian Church. He became ill during the ceremony and left early for his home.
Mr. Taylor was born January 28, 1896 and settled on the place where Mr. Taylor had lived since and where he died.
Mr. Taylor was a veteran of World War I and served in France with the 89th Division. He was a member of the Sarcoxie Nat Cale American Legion Post.
He was married November 29, 1922 in Carthage to Miss Lela Whisner.
Mr. Taylor was with the highway patrol as weight inspector at the station here, 15 years, retiring in 1957 because of his health.
Mr. Taylor was a stockman and farmer prior to serving as weight inspector.
Surviving him are his wife; the son, Gene Taylor, Sarcoxie Mayor and Jasper county chairman of the Republican committee; two sisters, Mrs. Volle Whisner, Sarcoxie and Mrs. George Palmer, Springfield; a brother, Walter Taylor of Carthage and two grandchildren.
The body is at Jackson & Sons Funeral Home in Sarcoxie.
[*footnote] At the time of his father's death, Gene Taylor was Mayor of Sarcoxie. He later went on to be elected as the 7th District Congressman from Missouri.
