Faith Brook
Birth: Feb. 16, 1922
York
York Unitary Authority
North Yorkshire, England
Death: Mar. 11, 2012

Actress. Born in the Northern region of York in England, she was the daughter of parents who made a name for themselves in the entertainment industry. Her father was actor Clive Brook, her mother Mildred Evelyn Brook appeared in a number of silent era pictures during the 1920s. Faith and her younger brother Lyndon Brook (who went onto becoming a well-known actor in his own right) were raised in Southern California following her father's calling to Hollywood. She had pondered a career as a dancer, however with her father's urging she followed his path choice to acting. She began acquiring experience in the theatre, initially with Ivor Novello's "Glamorous Nights", before returning to England where she received further instruction at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She went onto accumulate extensive stage work at London's West End and the Old Vic Theatre, prior to marking her motion picture debut at the age of nineteen in an uncredited role playing Alice Barham opposite Cary Grant in Hitchcock's classic "Suspicion" (1941). This was followed by "The Jungle Book" (1942) and several more parts in both American and British films during the decade. The 1950s and 1960s saw her appearing on American television in such programs as "Kraft Theatre" and "Robert Montgomery Presents" to name a few and further British films including "Violent Stranger" (1957), "Across the Bridge" (1957), the remake of Hitchcock's "The 39 Steps" (1959) and "To Sir, with Love" (1967). She may perhaps be best remembered for her TV roles in the British series "War and Peace" (1972 to 1973), "The Irish R.M." (1983 to 1984) and "Gentleman and Players" (1988 to 1989). (bio by: C.S.)
