MRS. KENNEDY DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Wife of Kanawha Coal Man Will Be Buried Tomorrow
Mrs. Martha Eunice Rodes Kennedy, 65, died at 1:10 p.m. yesterday at her home in Loudon Heights after an illness of two years.
Mrs. Kennedy, the wife of Duncan C. Kennedy, secretary of the Kanawha Coal Operators association, was born at Coal Run, January 24, 1876, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Greene Rodes, prominent Fayette county family.
She and Mr. Kennedy were married at Coal Run on June 29, 1898 and came to Charleston to live in 1904.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Loudon Heights Garden club.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Cecil R. Adams of Loudon Heights; three sons, Harry of Charleston, John of Rupert and D. C. Kennedy, Jr., of Lynchburg, Virginia; two brothers, Seth Rodes of Melbourne, Florida, and C. G. Rodes of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; four sisters, Mrs. Nannie Johnson of Melbourne, Florida, Mrs. Effie Carter, Mrs. Mintie Baggett and Mrs. Lucy Kyle, all of Jacksonville, Florida; also nine grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Scales funeral chapel. Rev. W. M. Alston, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
