Elizabeth MacKethan Magid

Death: Mar. 23, 2004

Military Figure, Author. She flew planes for the U.S. military during World War II and wrote the poem "Celestial Flight" which honors female pilots. She was one of 1,074 women who became pilots in the Women Airforce Service Pilots. Elizabeth wrote "Celestial Flight" in memory of her best friend, fellow pilot Marie Mitchell Robinson, who died in a crash of a B-25 bomber in 1944. After the war ended, she was a freelance writer for such magazines as Family Circle and Boys' Life. (bio by: Laurie)
