For an unexplained reason, he returned to Greene County, Pennsylvania between 1845 and 1850 and lived with a sister of his mother, Nancy Gordon Spraggs, near the village of Spraggs in Wayne Township. There George Hoy met and married Susannah Mapel, daughter of a nearby farmer, Benjamin Mapel.
After marriage, Susannah and George farmed in the vicinity of Kuhntown, also in Wayne Township, the rest of their lives. George Hoy was reputed to be an excellent bare knuckle fist fighter. He traveled to county fairs and would take on anyone for the prize money. He had a fight at a picnic near Jollytown, Pennsylvania when he was past the age of 60. George bested a bully (under the age of 30) who was bothering people. Perhaps this is why George left Perry County, Ohio.
