TUPELO, Miss. -- Mr. Samuel Preston Marshall Jr. of Tupelo, Miss., formerly of Polk County, died of a heart attack at Traceway Manor. He was 87. Born in King George County, Va., he lived in Polk County before moving to Tupelo, Miss. He was a retired international and community manager for customer relations at IMC in Bartow, serving as the ambassador to hundreds of visitors to the United States. He was a retired lieutenant colonel in the Army and a veteran of World War II. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and from Command and General Staff School in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He volunteered with the United Way, the Boys Club of Lakeland, and the Lakeland Junior Achievement Organization. In 1978, he was named Mr. United Way of Central Florida. He served on the board of Florida Southern University. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club International. He served for more than 40 years as an elder in the Presbyterian Church USA, and in Tupelo he chaired the committee that constructed the educational wing and fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Marshall was survived by his wife of 61 years, Edee; a daughter, Kathryn Marshall Arnold, Williamsburg, Va.; a son; a sister, Louise Bennett, Locust Grove, Va.; three granddaughters; two great-granddaughters. Memorial services were scheduled for 26 Jul 2003 at Tupelo First Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church's Outreach Fund.
