George was born in Catawba Island in Ottawa County Ohio to Daniel Muggy a successful farmer and Civil War sharpshooter veteran and Susan E. Tillotson. George was the second eldest of nine siblings. In his early years he engaged as a teacher and in Rocky Ridge and later as a traveling salesman for the Oak Harbor File & Supply Co. working out of Kansas City Missouri. In 1907 he married Mary Rose (Mane) McMahon, of Rocky Ridge Ohio, who he probably met when they both were teachers in Ottawa County Ohio, alas the union was not a happy one and they divorced after a relatively short time and neither were to remarry, but Mane retained her last name as Muggy... By coincidence, George's grandmother Ellen's maiden name was McMahon, the same as Mane's. There is a Muggy Road on Catawba Island named for his grandfather, John C. Muggy, a pioneer of the area...
