DANVILLE - Paul Desiderati, 81, formerly of Milton, and of Rushtown Road, Danville, died on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 9, 2008, at Elmcroft in Lewisburg.

Born on July 28, 1927, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Mariano and Anna Marie (Tomassilli) Desiderati. He was married to the former Edythe Lorraine Mertz, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Desiderati graduated from Lewistown High School in 1945. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy on the Destroyer USS Glennon.

He was a mechanical estimator and project manager for sewage, water and industrial waste treatment plants.

He had been employed by John Thatcher and Sons in Milton, Pizzagalli Construction Company in S. Burlington, Vt., Technocon Corporation of Pottsville and K. J. Miles in Elysburg.

He attended Sacred Heart Church in Lewisburg, was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, AARP, Tin Can Sailors Inc., a charter member of USS Glennon Reunion Association and a charter member of Pennsylvania Water Quality Control Association, Central Section of which he was one of the three founders in 1958.

Mr. Desiderati also served as a volunteer for Geisinger Hospice.

Surviving are children, Teresa Ann Nikkila, of Astoria, Ore., James Mariano Desiderati, of Northumberland, Betty Louise Desiderati, of Kelso, Wash.; stepson, Thomas Tracy Fawess, of Milton; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Frank W. Desiderati, of Kennsington, Md.

He was preceded in death by a son, Paul F. Desiderati; a daughter, Linda Marie Desiderati; a sister Theresa M. Desiderati; and brothers Anthony Desiderati and Robert J. Desiderati.

A private family graveside service with military honors will be held in the Harmony Cemetery, Milton. Officiating will be SUN Home Hospice Chaplain, the Rev. James R. Taylor.
