WILLIAM G. YATES, A FORMER RESIDENT OF HUME, DIES

The Cleveland Leader of Sunday, Nov. 25, contains a cut of single column width of William G. Yates and the following article:

"In the death of Mr. William G. Yates, which occurred at 10:20 o'clock last night Cleveland loses one of her old and respected citizens. He was born in Hume, Allegany county, N.Y., Nov. 22, 1830, and was consequently sixty-four years of age. His boyhood and early manhood were spent in his native village. When scarcely of age he found employment with the United States Express Company, and, by faithful attention to duty, was rapidly promoted. Forty years ago he was appointed as agent of the company at
Toledo, and later he was sent to Buffalo, where he remained until 1857, when he came to Cleveland to take charge of the office in this city. He occupied the position of agent in Cleveland until about four weeks ago,
when his failing health compelled him to retire from business. His position at the head of the company in
this city brought him into close touch with prominent business men, many of whom he numbered among his friends.
For two years Mr. Yates had been a great sufferer. Hoping for relief, he went to Chicago last June and underwent a painful surgical operation. The hoped for relief did not follow, and during the summer and fall, he gradually failed. For the last week or more, his family realized that his death was close at hand. Thursday evening he sank rapidly, and it was thought that he would not survive the night. His death did not occur, hower, until last evening.
"Mr. Yates was an attendant for many years at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was not associated with any secret society, and the only organization of which he was a member was the Expressmen's Mutual Benefit Association of which he was a director. Besides a widow Mr. Yates left three children, Frank H.,Henry N., and Miss Ida Noble Gates.
"Owing to the lateness of the hour Mr. Yates passed away, no arrangements for the funeral have yet been made.
Mr. Yates was unscious for several hours prior to his death."
