Myrtle was the oldest daughter of Lee & Stella (McFall) Brown. She had two older brothers and two younger sisters.
She was born in Sayre, Oklahoma, but the family moved to a farm near Norman. She went to a Country School and was a very good student. She skipped a grade. The family moved into town and she attended Lincoln School. She graduated from Norman High School and attended OU until her marriage to Ben McElhaney in 1933.

The Depression was going on and Ben was helping support his family. Since the families were not wanting them to marry, they eloped to Purcell, Oklahoma. Myrtle and Ben were very active in the First church of the Nazarene. They had two children, Kay and Bennie McElhaney.

Myrtle was a wonderful homemaker. She loved to sew and grow flowers. They lived at 121 W Himes in Norman until 1950 when they bought four acres at 1309 South Berry Road. It had an orchard, big gardens and lots of room for her flowers. At one time she had 150 varieties of Iris alone.

They had a long life there and enjoyed their four pampered grandson's growing up years. They were Chris & Eric Steenerson, Bryan & John McElhaney. Myrtle made many Sunday dinners and loved to have her family around her.

When she retired from 25 years in the JC Penney Office and Ben retired as City of Norman Electrical Inspector, they took many trips.

They also brought OU students from China into their lives. 12 sets of students lived in their rental house back of their home. She helped them with English and played checkers and dominos with them. She was called the "Domino Queen"

She is very missed by all of us for the wonderful and loving person that she was. We were so lucky to have her until age 96.
