I work as a volunteer for Heritage Library Foundation in Hilton Head SC which owns and manages this cemetery. We have been able to determine the surname for Mary and also for her brother William. The inscription on the headstone reads " SACRED / to the memory of / William & Mary Ann Irvine / William was born May 14th / 1796 and died Oct 18 1798 / Mary was born Jan 4th 1796 / and died Oct 17 1798 / With Heavenly innocence and beauty blest / Go then sweet babies to Heaven / For Christ has s aid that such as these shall shine / The realms of bliss and dwell forever thine."
So the last name is Irvine and I suggest you may want to reconsider your description about the headstone with this new information. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance,
