Age 91, died peacefully on August 29, 2011 after a very brief illness. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on October 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Congregation Kol Ami, 900 W. Water St., Elmira, NY. Rabbi Miriam Biatch officiating. Interment of Doris's ashes will take place in Temple B'Nal Israel Cemetery, Elmira at the convenience of the family. Dorie is survived by her daughter, Kate Baker (Mark Thomsen) of Mumford, NY; daughter-in-law, Carol Obertubbesing of Chicago, IL; and a niece, Jane Wheat. Dorie was predeceased by her loving husband, Herbert Epstein in 2003; son, Michael Epstein in 2011; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Katy Baker. Dorie was a graduate of National Park College, Washington, DC and Elmira College. She retired from Corning Inc. after 30 years of service. She was a member Congregation B'Nai Israel and many other organizations in the Elmira and Corning area. Dorie will be remembered by her family and friends as an amazing woman whose quiet strength was a comfort to anyone who met her. She was an example to all of a life quietly and elegantly lived. Dorie will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donation to a charity of one's choice or to the Humane Society to honor Dorie's lifetime love of dogs.
