• "Edgar Harney, one of the most widely known of Mobile's worthy colored citizens, died yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock. He suffered from dropsy for several years past, but was attending to business until the early part of last week. ... Born in the month of May, 1852, in New Orleans, [he was] apprenticed as a barber, serving in his young years on the river boats. At the age of seventeen he came to Mobile, and for a period of forty years has been a citizen of Mobile, where, for 35 years, he engaged in the barber business, as proprietor of the Battle House shop for 33 years. ... Five years ago ... he entered into partnership with C.W. Allen in the undertaking business."
