Katherine married Gilbert Stanley Heatwole on Sept. 23, 1920 in the District of Columbia. They had two daughters.
She later married George Lewis Layne. There were no children from this marriage.
Katherine passed away December 28, 1979 in Washington, D.C.
She was cremated. Her ashes were later placed in her husband's casket (Lewis Layne) in Westhampton Memorial & Cremation Park in Richmond, Va.

Katherine Elinor Layne of Alexandria, VA, formerly of Richmond, wife of G. Lewis Layne, mother of Margaret Heatwole Gresham of Glen Bernie, MD and Helen Heatwole Gregory of Nashville, TN, sister of Goldie Stephens and Lois Harris, both of Richmond.
Also, survived by other brothers and sisters, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Demaine Funeral Home, 520 S. Washington St., Alexandria, Va. on Saturday, January 5 at 1 pm.
