BLALOCK, ROBERT BYRON of Duncanville, Texas went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Blalock, a member of First Baptist Church of Duncanville, was a Teacher, Coach, and Counselor at Duncanville I.S.D. for 35 years. He was named Outstanding Educator of Duncanville Schools in 1972. Mr. Blalock retired from education in 1992 and operated a cattle ranch on his boyhood homeplace outside of Quitman, Texas until his death. Mr. Blalock was born on January 2, 1931 in Quitman, Texas to John R. and Myrtie Mary Wright Blalock. He attended Cana School outside of Quitman, and graduated from Quitman High School. He attended Tyler Junior College and received his B.S. in Agriculture from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. He received his Masters degree from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. He served in the United States Air Force and was Honorably Discharged in 1956. Robert Blalock is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ruth (Rector) Blalock whom he married on July 31, 1955 and two sisters, Alice Pearl Vance of Quitman, and Helen Sue Sauls of Grand Prairie, Texas. He is also survived by his two sons and daughters in law; Byron and Susan Blalock of Carthage, Texas, and John R. and Patricia Blalock of Quitman, Texas, his two daughters and sons in law; Susie and Harry Hall of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Amy and Cole Starr of Tyler, Texas, and his 8 grandchildren; Celeste Blalock Kidd, Sara Stribling, Dana Stribling, Laura Blalock, Zane Hall, Justin Blalock, Julia Starr, and Spencer Starr, numerous cousins, nephews and nieces, and an infinite number of friends. Mr. Blalock was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul Wright Blalock and J.M. Blalock. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 on Thursday, March 18 at First Baptist Church in Duncanville and graveside services will be held at 3:00 at Myrtle Springs Cemetary in Quitman. Visitation with the family will be 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to his church or the Myrtle Springs Cemetery Association in Quitman.
