U.S. Congressman. He attended the Piqua Academy, Ohio Wesleyan College, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1850 and commenced to practice law in Piqua, Ohio. Entering politics, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-eighth Congress, serving (1863-65). He was gain elected to the Forty-second Congress, serving (1871-73). Not a candidate for re-nomination, he served as chairman of the Democratic State executive committee, (1879-80) and practiced law until his death.
