[The Allentown Morning Call, Allentown, PA, Wednesday, June 22, 1938, pages 5 & 16]

Jacob R. Jarrett, oldest native of Emaus and retired shoe merchant, died Monday night at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Will M.*Wm Martin & Amelia Josephine Lobst Jarrett) Jarrett, 3rd and Broad Sts., Emaus.
For the last few weeks he was bedfast following a stroke. Had he lived until next Saturday he would have reached his 87th milestone. (86y 11m 26d)
He was son of the late John Jarrett and Ellamina, nee Rothrock,(this is his dec wife) (M: Henrietta Leibert) Jarrett, and was born in Emaus where he has resided all his lifetime. He was born on Main St. in the Jarrett homestead which has since been razed and where now is located the fine residence of Judge Richard W. Iobst who was his immediate neighbor for many years.
In his youth he took a fancy to the shoe business and shoe-repairing business and subsequently was Emaus' leading shoe-repairer and shoe merchant for many years. He conducted such a successful business at 5th and railroad Sts., later removing to 3rd and Main Sts., So. 3rd St., and 342 Main St. He retired about fifteen years ago and made his residence at 212 Main St., up to last November when his feebleness compelled him to remove to the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Will M. Jarrett, 3rd and Broad Sts., the former being the purchasing agent for the Donaldson Iron Co. in Emaus.
His wife (Ellamina Rothrock) preceded him in death eleven years ago.
Of a genial disposition and keen business instinct, he was highly regarded by the young and old in Emaus and vicinity.
He was one of the few surviving natives of Emaus who were honored at the Emaus Diamond Jubilee celebration four years ago. He was a life-long member of the Emmaus Moravian church and was the leader of the Moravian Trombone choir for thirty-five years. His exceptional musical talents were also evidenced as a charter member of the Emaus band where he played E flat clarinet for many years. He was also a violinist of note and played with the Eureka Orchestra of Emaus, directed by his son. Fraternally he was a charter member of the Knights of Pythias lodge of Emaus.
His only survivor is his son, Will M. Jarrett.

Funeral services will be conducted at his late residence, the home of his son, Will M. Jarrett, 3rd and Broad Sts., Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, D.S. time, followed with interment in the Moravian cemetery. Rev. H. A. Kuehl, Moravian pastor, will officiate.
Friends may view his remains Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
