Lorene was born on Sept. 13, 1925, in Harrisburg, Ill., daughter of the late Charles Frederick Baugher and Iva (Mercer) Baugher.
She had worked as a machinist for Hughes Aircraft in California during World War II and later in life retired from Tyson Foods as a Quality Control Manager.
Lorene was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monett where she was Secretary of her Sunday school class. She also volunteered at Lacoba Nursing Home in Monett. Lorene had a passion for caring for others in need, especially when she was able to cook food for them.
On Christmas Eve of 1945 in Sikeston, Mo., Lorene Baugher and Johnie Cook were united in marriage. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1992.
Also preceding her in death are her six brothers, Charlie, Loy, Irwin, Ivan, Larry and Bernie Baugher; and four sisters, June James, Bonita Jones, Enid Patterson and Betty Wesson.
Lorene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Dr. Mel Hodde, of Pierce City; two grandchildren, Randy Lombard and wife, Amy, of Fayetteville, Ark. and Jason Lombard and wife, Kenia, of San Diego, Calif.; one great-grandson, Kenneth Lombard; two brothers, Jerry Baugher and wife, Mary Lou, of Greeley, Colo. and Fred Baugher, of Camarillo, Calif.; as well as a host of extended family and friends that will dearly miss her.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the First Baptist Church in Monett. Dr. Bill Cox will officiate. Interment will be in the Van Buren Cemetery, west of Wentworth. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.
Contributions in memory of Lorene can be made to Hospice Compassus in care of the funeral home.
