Antonio C. Lucero, age 80, went to be with his Lord in Heaven on February 21, 2012. Antonio was born on May 7, 1931 to Juan T. and Josefita (Saiz) Lucero in Socorro, New Mexico. Antonio was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Frances and son, Tony Lucero Jr., sister, Lola Montano, brother, Johnny Lucero, sisters-in-law, Odelia Tafoya and Mildred Bridgeman and brothers-in-law, Luis T. Chavez, Lolo Montano, George Naranjo, Mike Padilla, John Gallagher and Albert Castillo. Antonio is survived by his daughters, Dr. Marian Lucero (Frank Martin), Linda Otero (Michael) and Francine Martinez (Tony) and son, Ryan Lucero (Victoria), his sisters, Aurora Naranjo, Ellen Padilla, Susie Gallagher and Stella Castillo and brother, Gilbert Lucero, also, sister-in-laws, Sheila Porath, Cecilia Montoya and Dora Lucero, his grandchildren, Cristy Lucero-Bryan (Joel), Brianna Martinez, Sabrina Lucero, Jynell Finch (Ryan), Deryck and Jaycob Otero, great-grandchildren, Elias, Nicholas and Marcus Lucero and Dawn Lucero-Bryan and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Antonio was a lifelong resident of Socorro. After graduating from high school, he joined the National Guard, then went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. Antonio was stationed in Germany where he suffered a broken arm when the truck he was riding in plunged down into a ravine. Antonio was sent from Germany to El Paso, Texas to rehab before being honorably discharged from the United States Army. Antonio never told his family about his broken arm because he "didn't want to worry them." Antonio married Frances Tafoya on October 22, 1955. They were married for almost 50 years until her death in 2005. Antonio worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Crabtree Building Supply and New Mexico Tech. Antonio retired from Socorro Consolidated Schools in 1994 where he held several positions, one being a school bus driver. Antonio loved music and dancing. Antonio played the accordion and the piano. Antonio enjoyed sports especially football and basketball. Antonio loved his family and would do anything for them. Antonio will be greatly missed but he is now resting peacefully in Heaven. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. at the San Miguel Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Resurrection which will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. with Father Andrew Pavlak as Celebrant. Interment will take place following services in the San Miguel Catholic Cemetery.
