John Milton "Milt" Nash was the Superintendent of Construction & Repairs for the Union Military Railroad during the Civil War. Milt worked close with General Rosecrans and other Union generals. He built many bridges including the Railroad Bridge of Nashville Tennessee, the Stones River Bridge of Tennessee & the Ohio River Bridge of Kentucky. He also was responsible for the transporting the wounded Union soldiers.
An article published in 1862 by "The Hingham Journal" entitled "How a Yankee Engineer Cooled Phil Sheridan Off", documented a conversation between John Milton and the General , crediting Milton's "cool headed" character in calming down the general.
He was married to Jane Elizebeth Carter, daughter of early St. Joseph, Missouri pioneer Robert S. & Elivra Esther (Parks) CARTER.
He was the father of six children: Harvey Carter Nash, Anna Elvira (Nash) Austin, Robert Milton Nash, Edward Henry Nash, Arthur Emery Nash & Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Nash) Lepine.
