First child of eight children of Capt. Francis K. "Frank" Lockett, Sr. 1779-1862, and Martha Goode Marshall 1787-1828. They were both from Virginia. Both are buried in Henderson County, Kentucky.

William's father Capt. Frank Lockett first married Martha Goode Marshall on March 8, 1802 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Martha was born in Powhatan, Powhatan County, Virginia, and died in Henderson, Henderson County, Kentucky. They had five sons and three daughters together. Her memorial has not yet been located.

William Marshall Lockett married Lorena Hart Sugg 1817-1903 from Henderson, Kentucky on September 25, 1832 in Henderson, Kentucky.

They had at least seven children together, five sons and two daughters.
