On the wings of an angel, my precious mother, Joyce Yvonne Taylor Vaughan of Richmond, Virginia went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 11, 1994, after a lengthy illness at MCV Hospitals.

Born January 28, 1937 in Richmond, she was the third born of eight children and the only daughter of the late James Henry Taylor, Sr. and late Bettie Lee Archer.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church in South Richmond, receiving Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at an early age.

She graduated from Armstrong High School in 1954. She worked as a cook for St. Jerod Catholic Church's Nursery School and Maturnity Home, the Little Sisters of the Poor Nuns. After becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant, she worked for 16 years at Forest Hill Convalescent Center. She retired on disability due to health reasons.

She was also preceeded in death by her eldest brother, Clyde Adolphus Taylor, Sr

She was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and all-around wonderful person, touching everyone she met. She was a giving person who was a source of strength, guidance, and inspiration to family and friends alike.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two loving and devoted daughters Marilynn Betty and Joyce Claudette Vaughan; two loving sons Merlin Cleveland Vaughan of Cheasapeake, VA and Michael Anthony Vaughan of Woodbridge, VA; two grandchildren Daniel Colby and Cristina Nicole Vaughan of Chesapeake, VA; one daughter-in-law Laura Ann Powell Vaughan of Cheasapeake, VA; six brothers James H. (Frances C.), Archie L. (Delores S.), Marvin S., Delmas L. (Audrey), Anthony C. (Gwenevere), and Kenneth W. Taylor; other sisters-in-law Shelby M. Taylor of Norfolk, VA and Brenda Bingham Taylor; 11 nieces and 10 nephews; nine great-nieces and nephews; six aunts; four uncles; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were provided by Joseph Jenkins, Jr. Funeral Home.

Home Going Celebration was held Monday, August 15, 1994 at Second Baptist Church, South Richmond. Rev. Lawrence B. Samuel officiated.

We sat beside your bedside
Our hearts were crushed and sore:
We did our best to the end,
'Til we could do no more.
In tears we watched you sinking,
We watched you fade away;
And though our hearts were breaking,
We knew you could not stay.
You left behind some aching hearts,
That loved you most sincere;
We never shall and never will
forget you Mama dear.

"May You Rest In Peace"

Watching a peaceful death of a human being
reminds us of a falling star;
one of a million lights in a vast sky,
that flares up for a brief moment,
only to disappear into the endless night forever.
