Fr William Peter Furlan

Reverend William Peter Furlan was born on August 12,1922, in Little Falls, NY. He was the son of Joseph and Amalia Mazi Furlan. He attended St. Mary's Academy, Little Falls, NY for his elementary and secondary education. Father Furlan made final profession as a member of the Friars of the Atonement, Graymoor, New York, in August 1940. He received his seminary training at the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. He was ordained on February 21, 1948, at St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York, NY. He celebrated his First Mass on February 22, 1948, in the Church of St. Mary, Little Falls, NY.

Father Furlan was incardinated into the Saint Cloud Diocese on February 1, 1950. He served in the following assignments: associate pastor Holy Angels, St. Cloud, February 1950--September 1954. During this time he was also an instructor at Cathedral High School, St. Cloud, MN February 1950-June 1955. Father Furlan was editor of the Saint Cloud Register August 1952-June 1954. He was pastor at St. Charles, Herman, June 1955-June 1968 and at Christ the King, Cambridge, July 1981-July 1993. Father Furlan retired on July 7,1993. After retiring he served as Chaplain at the Poor Clare Monastery, Sauk Rapids, Minnesota.

Because of the deteriorating health of his parents, he was granted a leave of absence Sept-ember 1964 and served in the Diocese of Albany, New York and was incardinated into that diocese September 10, 1970. He returned to the Saint Cloud Diocese in 1981. He was excardinated from the Diocese of Albany, NY and was incardinated into the Diocese of St. Cloud, December 13,1982.
At the request of Bishop Peter W. Bartholomew, Father Furlan wrote "In Charity Unfeigned", the biography of Father Francis Pierz published in 1952.

Father Furlan is survived by one brother, Edward, Holiday, Florida, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Margaret Rogers.
