Mount Vernon News ~ Monday, 14 April, 1947 - Two persons were killed in
traffic in seperate accidents on Route 3 Saturday night as Knox county ended a
period of more than five months without a traffic death. The last previous
fatality was Oct. 23. Mrs. Dorothea Duff, 27, Garden City, N.Y., died of
injuries after a car driven by her husband, Maj. Albert N. Duff, 33, stationed
at Akron, hit a bridge at the foot of Ebenezer hill, north of here. State
highway patrolman said Mrs. Duff received a fractured skull, pelvis, and femur,
and died four minutes after arrival at Mercy Hospital in Miller & O'Bryan's
ambulance, Maj. Duff escaped with a cut lip. Patrolmen said the couple was going
to Columbus and the car driven by Major Duff sideswiped the concrete bridge at
the foot of Ebenezer hill at 9 p.m. Mrs. Duff had expected a baby in two months.
The body was sent to Greenville, S. C., where the funeral will be held Thursday.
Mrs. Duff's mother arrived yesterday by plane from Washington and accompanied
the body to South Carolina.
