Obituary, Contra Costa Times (Walnut Creek, CA), 12 Dec 2008:

Diane Castle, June 6, 1929 - Nov. 28, 2008

Resident of Walnut Creek Diane was born in Hollywood amidst stars and passed away in Walnut Creek to stars in heaven. She was a delightful person, especially to her husband and who ever she met during her fruitful life. Diane leaves behind her loving husband, Alex, of 57 years, and 3 children, Tim, Pam and Holly. While living in Mt. Prospect, IL, Diane was active in many social action organizations and was the President of the Local ACLU Chapter. She was also active in the Civil Rights Movement of the sixties and was a co-chairman, with her husband, of an Equal Housing Organization in Northwestern Suburbs of Chicago. Furthermore, while in Mt. Prospect, she returned to school to specialize in psychiatric social work and family counseling. She received her Masters Degree in Social Work at the University of Illinois. Shortly after finishing her studies, she and her family moved to the West Coast and settled in Walnut Creek. She started her professional life with Contra Costa County's Child Protective Services, and later joined a private school to offer more intensive therapy to students with difficult problems in their lives. She treated the students as members of a family and had helpful sessions with their parents. Diane was known for her academic and professional excellence, and was diligent in all of her dealings - both professionally and personally. She was an attentive and thoughtful mother who continued to care and look after her children and grandchildren until her last moments with us. She was also and accomplished artist and her family treasures the paintings she created while at Carnegie Mellon University and afterward until she became too involved in her professional life to do any paintings, except on a few occasions. The Castle Family and Friends miss her very much.
