Mrs. Nancy Akins Salmon, age 80, 79 Boyd Valley Road, Rome, passed away Friday evening, February 10, 2012, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Salmon was born in Floyd County on February 3, 1932, daughter of the late John and I. N. Melton Akins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Oscar (Bill) Salmon on May 29, 1997, by 5 sisters, Mary Wood, Gladys Price, Hazel Tillery, Elizabeth Holsomback, and Katherine Agan Worthington, and by 2 brothers, Emmett Akins and the Rev. Robert Akins. Mrs. Salmon was employed for a number of years in the textile industry here in the Floyd County area. She was last employed as a Greeter at Walmart. Mrs. Salmon was a member of the Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church where she was a member of the New Creatures Sunday School Class and was active in the Prime Timers.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Lori Salmon Baker, and her husband, Norris, Rome; a son, Steve Salmon, and his wife, Patsy, Silver Creek; 5 grandchildren, Danielle Salmon Haygood, and her husband, James, Kingston, Michelle Salmon Thacker, and her husband, Ryan, Silver Creek, Brice Baker, Athens, Bradi Baker, Rome, and Brett Baker, Rome; 2 great grandchildren, Will and Hannah Thacker, Silver Creek; 2 sisters, Mrs. Emily Towe, Rome, and Mrs. Birtice Terry, Silver Creek; nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 11am at the Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church with her Pastor, Dr. Philip May, the Rev. Billy Fricks, and the Rev. Don Spears officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens with the Rev. Barry Snapp officiating.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Monday from 5 until 8pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.

Active and honorary pallbearers are requested to assemble at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church on Tuesday at 10:30am and are as follows: Active: Nephews and her grandsons-in-law, Ryan Thacker and James Haygood. Honorary: Members of the New Creatures Sunday School Class at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church, P. O. Box 519, Silver Creek, GA 30173.
