JOHN SHERRELL FUNERAL HELD
Graveside rites were held at 5 p.m. Sunday for John Ward Sherrell, 86, who died Sunday at 2:10 a.m. in a local hospital. Mr. Sherrell had been a resident of Big Spring for the past several months, making his home with his daughter Mrs. Lee Frank.
The Reverend Joe Leatherwood, associate pastor of First Methodist Church, read the rites in the Colorado City Cemetery. Interment was under the direction of Nalley Pickle Funeral Home.
Mr. Sherrell was born May 5, 1877, and was reared on a ranch near Marfa. He married Emma Lea Bass at Terrell January 14, 1906. She preceded him in death May 16, 1933.
He spent many years in Loraine where he was a member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Sherrell ranched in Monahans and Jal, New Mexico until he moved to Wills Point where he ranched and farmed. He moved to Loraine in 1928 and lived there until 1959 when he moved to Sweetwater. He was preceded in death by a son, John Sherrell in 1920.
Mr. Sherrell is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Leo Frank, Big Spring, Mrs. Joe Tidwell and Mrs. Norvan Walker, Sweetwater, Mrs. C.D. Aikin, Amarillo; two sisters, Mrs. Eugenia Hinds, Dallas and Mrs. Margaret Taylor, Dallas; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Kirk Taylor, W. L. Bearden, Ralph Lankford, H. G. Tidwell, G. H. Hall and Aubrey Lankford.
