Countess, Duchess. Marie Victoire Sophie de Noailles, daughter of Anne Jules de Noailles, second Duke of Noailles, and his wife Marie Françoise de Bournonville, was born at Versailles. She was one of twenty children, and a number of her sisters married into important noble families. In 1707, she married Louis de Pardaillan de Grondin, son of Louis Antoine de Pardaillan de Grondin. Marie Victoire had two children from this marriage. She was widowed in 1712. On February 2, 1723, she married in a private ceremony Louis Alexandre de Bourbon, Count of Toulouse, the legitimized son of King Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan. Upon this marriage, Marie Victoire became the Countess of Toulouse and the Duchess of Vendôme, Rambouillet, Arc-en-Barrois, Châteauvillain, and Penthièvre. The couple had one child. It should be noted that while Marie Victoire's second husband was the son of Madame de Montespan, her first husband was the grandson of Madame de Montespan. Thus, her second husband was the uncle of her first husband, despite being younger. The Count and Countess of Toulouse had apartments at the Palace of Versailles. Marie Victoire was widowed in 1737. She died in 1766 at the Hôtel de Toulouse in Paris. King Louis XV was her son's godfather. The Countess of Toulouse is an ancestor of the modern House of Orléans, as well as the royal families of other countries.
