My grandmother's stone is incorrect. She was not born in 1914, that would have put her being born 9 months after her mothers death. Social Security Death Index has her correct birth date as June 17, 1912. She was 15 months old when her mother passed away in September of 1913 of Pulmonary Tuberculosis and Malaria Fever (I have a copy of the death certificate).
She is the daughter of Joseph and Cynthia "Cintha" (Horner) Allen and the sister of Nellie (1903-1922), Dollie (1904-1932), Claud (1906-1956), and Virdie (1909-1911).
She was the wife of Ward Edward Newton, mother to Marion, Billie Jean, Beverly Jo, Charles, Sharon, Mary Nell, and Toni Carol.
NOTE: Melinda was NOT her mother, she was her step-mother. Her father, Joseph, remarried prior to the 1920 census. He passed away in 1926 and Melinda then remarried.
