---William Armstrong was born in the county of Fermanagh, Ireland, 21 Jun 1828 died at this home near Montezuma, IA 20 Mar 1899 after a short Illness. He was married to Miss Jane Hall in the spring of 1860 and then with his young wife emigrated to America and made their home in Preemption, IL for 8 years. He then moved to IA and settled in Poweshiek County on a farm near Montezuma. Here he made his home until death came to take him to the home above. To Mr and Mrs Armstrong were born 12 children (7 girls and 5 boys) the most of whom were permitted to be with him in his last illness and who with the bereaved mother deeply mourn the loss of a kind husband and indulgent father. He was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church. Besides a widow and 12 children and 2 sisters (Mrs Briggs, of Montezuma and Mrs Downey, of Deep River) a host of friends bear witness to the high esteem in which he was held in this community for more than 30 years. The earthly remains were taken and laid to rest in the Montezuma Cemetery. May God bless and comfort the widow and children in their bereavement.
