Edna A. (Wilt) Berkheimer, 99, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Frank O. Berkheimer, who died in 1976.

Mrs. Berkheimer was born in North York, on February 12, 1912, daughter of the late Charles D. and Emma S. (Byers) Wilt.

At age 15 she was employed by Webster Cigar Factory for 10 years. From that point she held numerous jobs. She worked in a sewing factory for five years, and worked for a number of years as a waitress for the former Shelley Restaurant, the former Tremont, the Rambler Inn, and the Out Door Country Club. She retired after 30 years from York College. She was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, York. Additional memberships included Reliance Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, St. James Senior Citizens, St. James Quilties, St. Matthews Half Century Fellowship, AARP 1578, and the Mall Walkers.

Survivors include two sons, Gary L. Berkheimer and his wife, Mary Lou of Red Lion, and Richard A. Berkheimer and his wife, Stephanie of York; daughter-in-law, J. Nadine Berkheimer of Silver Springs, Md.; six grandchildren, R. Daniel Berkheimer, David M. Berkheimer, Eric J. Berkheimer, Angela M. Doedderlein, Kelly A. Skouras, and Janice L. Brown; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beatrice Adams of West Mifflin. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert D. Berkheimer; a grandson, Jeffrey L. Berkheimer; seven brothers; and three sisters.

Edna's funeral service will be held Monday, January 30, 2012, at 11 a.m. from the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc., 2290 School St., York (Shiloh). Officiating will be her pastor, the Rev. Brenda J. Ferree.

Final resting place will be beside her husband in Paradise (Holtzschwamm) Union Cemetery, Thomasville. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 N. Adams St., York, PA 17404.
