Scott R. Matthews of Lodi, California, passed away on December 14, 2011 at the age of 82 from heart failure. He was a native Californian and was born in Stockton. He was a veteran and served in Korea for two years. He was a reporter at the Stockton Record and worked there until 1966. He studied law at Humphreys College and passed the California Bar Examination in 1966. He was a practicing attorney for 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Matthews, and his brother, David Matthews. He is survived by his three children, Suzanne Matthews, Evan Matthews, Brian Matthews, and his sister Nancy Phillips. He enjoyed writing poetry, liked to paint, listened to classical music and was an avid fan of science and science fiction. He also enjoyed travel, in particular his recent visit to Scotland and England. He was a friend of Bill W for many years.
