Longtime Douglas Flat resident Albert D. hacker died Jan. 25 at his home. He was 89.

He was born in West Point and lived in Douglas Flat for more than 60 years. Mr. Hacker lived in Calaveras County his entire life.

After graduating from Murphys Grammar School, he began working in the gold mines at age 14. An employee of SC Linebaugh for more than 25 years, he also worked at a box factory in Toyon and at the Calaveras Cement Plant.

He spent the last 10 years before his retirement working for Claude Wood Construction Company.

He was a past master of Ophir Masonic Lodge and a member of the Native Sons.

Mr. Hacker was the youngest of 10 children born to Eli and Josie Hacker. They all proceeded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vera Hacker of Douglas Flat; daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Paul Hohman of Paso Robles; son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Susan Hacker of Visalia; the niece he and his wife raised and her husband, Roseanna and Frank Tonetti of Murphys; grandchildren, Ellen and spouse Tony Grijalva of Paso Robles, Dennis and spouse Karie Hohman of Kiowa, Colo., Marie and spouse Dave Hicks of Iowa City, Iowa, Brian and spouse Stephanie Hacker of Olympia, Wash., Andrew and spouse Heidi Tonetti of Murphys, Angela Tonetti of Mammoth Lakes and Roseanna Tonetti of Murphys; great-grandchildren, Bryce and Diana Grijalva, Tristan and Madison Tonetti, Sydney and Isabella Tonetti-Belton, Janie and Samuel Hacker, Nolan and Daniel Hicks; and many nieces and nephews.
