Mr. Abshier passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield.

He was born in Cedar Bayou, TX on September 27, 1935, and lived in Channelview, Missouri, and Arkansas before settling in rural Limestone County. He attended the Fair Oaks School and after graduation he went to work for Houston Lighting and Power Company. Mr. Abshier retired as a manager of the energy control center after a career of over thirty-seven years with H. L. & P. He married Sally on April 6, 1957, and shared over fifty-four years together, the last eighteen at their home in Donie. Mr. Abshier was known as the "Donie Weatherman". He kept a very close eye on the weather and recorded rainfall totals for the area for several years. Mr. Abshier enjoyed growing a garden in his spare time. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend to all that knew him and enjoyed being able to help people. Mr. Abshier was a member of First Baptist Church in Donie.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Abshier; one daughter, Elizabeth White & husband Michael all of Donie; two brothers, J. T. Abshier & wife Janet of Fredericksburg, and George Winston Abshier of Donie; one sister, Esther Williams & husband Kelly of Magnolia; special cousin, Margie Dossey & husband Dick of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Abshier was preceded in death by one daughter, Melanie Leal; his parents, Charlie & Ora Abshier; three brothers, James Abshier, J. D. Abshier, and Joel Abshier; and two aunts, Robbie Dee Stover and Sidell Owens.
