BRIEF ILLNESS FATAL TO JACOB F. BALK
Jacob F. Balk, 78 years old, died today at his home, 517 Ada avenue, after a brief illness. He was born in the Netherlands Oct. 2, 1852, and came to this country in 1880, settling in Muskegon and making his home here the past 51 years. On Feb. 14, 1898, he was united in marriage to Katie DeWilder in this city. Mr. Balk formerly was engaged in celery growing, from which he retired some seven or eight years ago. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed church.
Surviving are his widow, one son, Fred Balk, of Fruitland township; three daughters, Mrs. John Temple, and Mrs. Charles Boden, both of Muskegon, and Jessie Balk, at home; one sister, Mrs. O. Workman, of Cadillac and five grandchildren.
