Injured at Murfreesboro and later captured at the Battle of Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga Tennessee Nov 24, 1864.
His father was George Thomas Bennett who was born in 1789 in North Carolina. His mother was Mary "Polly" Rounsavall, born about 1797. They were married on October 6, 1813 in Williamson County Tennessee. The large family was living in Attala County Mississippi in 1850.
Leonidas married Julia M. Weatherby about 1859, most likely in Holmes County Mississippi. He and Julia are listed in the 1860 census living in her parents home in Lexington, Holmes County, Mississippi. They have a son R.H.V. Bennett who is four months old. Julia died about 1865. Leonidas' next married Margaret Emmaline Long about 1866.
His son Robert married Martha "Mattie" Turner. Their son George Martin Bennett is my great grandfather.

Leonidas is buried at Natchez City Cemetery, unfortunately the records do not indicate where his plot is, only that he is there. A marker was placed in what was formerly the African-American section of the cemetery but is now known as the Sullivan Addition by the Sons of the Confederate Veterans.

According to the Sexton books, L.F. Bennette (sic) died Aug. 21 1894 of Chronic Diarrhea per Dr. J.W. Ramsey. He was interred in the Smokey Plat.
