Technical Sergeant Barboza was a Flight Engineer aboard U S Army Air Forces B-17G Flying Fortress #42-31547, serving with the 749th Bomb Squadron, 457th Bomb Group.

After departing Wendover Field, the B-17 suffered a structural failure during a snowstorm and crashed into the Cedar Mountains, about twelve miles southwest of Delle, Utah, killing six crew members and injuring five others.

Killed were:

1st Lt. Hugh R Ashby, Pilot
2nd Lt. Marvin J Bible, Co-pilot
2nd Lt. Clarence R McRae, Navigator
2nd Lt. John W Newman, Bombardier
S/Sgt. Robert A Timmons, Gunner

Son of Alfred & Emily (Cabral) Barboza (natives of Azores, Portugal).
