TEXIE M. ATWELL, 88, of Porter, Texas passed away on January 18, 2012 from pneumonia and congested heart failure in Kingwood, Texas. She was born to J.S. and Rennie (Lewis) Lott in Dothan, Alabama. Texie moved from Dothan, Alabama to San Augustine, Texas in the White Rock area with her parents and spent much of her childhood there. When she married Nick Atwell, they lived in Houston then they moved to Friendswood until 1973. In 1973 Nick, the love of her life, passed away and she never remarried or dated another man. She was always devoted to him and her two children, always putting her husband and children's needs above her own. She moved to Porter in 1974 and worked for Marriott catering. Near the age of 60 she became an entrepreneur and started buying rent houses and fixing them up. She said this was the thing that kept her going and active with a good mind. She built a small community where a number of her renters over the years have become very good friends. She loved working in her garden and cooking lunch for her son, Terry, since he worked around the corner from her. Her love for God was genuine and her desire to help others will always be remembered by those that were touched by her life.
She is survived by her two sons, Terry Atwell of Crosby, Texas and Donnie Atwell of Porter, Texas; grandchildren, Nathan Atwell of Clear Lake, Stephen Atwell of Katy, Elyse Oakley and husband David of New Caney; and great grandchildren, Terry Lee Atwell, Mila Atwell, Kaia Atwell, Slayne Oakley, Benjamin Atwell, Eva Atwell and ZAyden Oakley.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. with the funeral service following at 11:00 A.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546 with Rev. Colin Botts and Rev. Dennis Tompkins officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery in Friendswood, Texas.
