SAMUEL LEGRAND, WOODLAWN, DIES; FUNERAL SATURDAY
MADISON, March 13---Samuel Legrand, 80-year-old resident of the Woodlawn community, died at his home last night after an illness of several years. Mr. Legrand was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Legrand and was born in Schuyler County Nov. 22, 1861. He came to Woodlawn community when quite young, and spent the remainder of his life there.
He was married to Lucy Ellen Sanders on March 5, 1885. To this union two children were born--Lyda, who died seven years ago, and Mrs. Marvin Freeman, near Madison. He is also survived by his wife, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He had been a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church since young manhood.
Mr. and Mrs. Legrand were the operators of the Woodlawn Telephone switchboard for 33 1/2 years until ill health and advanced aged forced them to retire.
Funeral services will be held from the Oak Grove Baptist Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. O. P. McKenzie of Lewis County. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
