Rebecca Backus was born Sept 27, 1820, at New Berlin, N.Y., and passed away Sept 6, 1918, at the home of her son, Ralph Burgess of the Town of Beaver Dam.
The deceased was united in marriage to Allen Burgess, Sept 22, 1846 and came to Wisconsin, settling on a farm near Beaver Dam where they lived until death called them. Mr. Burgess preceeded his wife to the Great Beyond on Jan 15, 1892 but Mrs. Burgess continued to make her home on the old homestead. Had she remained with us until the 27th of this month she would have attained the wonderful age of 98 years, and for the past 71 years had lived on the Burgess
farm in the Town of Beaver Dam. Six children were born to this union, four boys and two girls: Jay and Ralph of the Town of Beaver Dam; Frank of Doland, South Dakota, and Alva who died in his 5th year; Ruth Howard of Sarastoa, Florida, and Sarah Kenyon, wife of Geo. W Kenyon of this city. Nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren
also remain to mourn her loss.
