Corey Lee Coil passed away on Aug. 22, 2007. He was 14.

Corey was born Oct. 18, 1992, in Fairfield to Frank Silveria and Susie Folsom.

Diagnosed with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa a congenital condition that causes chronic blistering of the skin Corey was adopted by Sheri Coil and later by her biological daughter, Lana Coil.

Corey attended Los Carneros school in Napa, Calif., from 1998 to 2001, and Deer Creek School in Grass Valley from 2001 to 2005.

Filled with compassion for sick and displaced children, Corey raised $80 from selling his own belongings and bought clothes and stuffed animals for the children at the KARE Crisis Nursery in Grass Valley.

Corey was active in fundraising and raising awareness about his disease. He participated in the EB Medical Research Foundation, Children's Skin Disease Foundation, the Taylor Family Foundation, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Ronald McDonald House and Relay for Life. He gave numerous interviews for newspapers, magazines and television.

Corey's role model was Captain America because he had strength without superpowers and was immune to all disease.

He delighted in learning how food was prepared, cooking and eating it. His favorite treats were cinnamon cookies made by his younger sister. Corey said he would have been a chef if he did not have EB. His greatest fear was there would be no food in heaven.

Corey loved traveling, especially a Make-a-Wish Foundation Disney cruise. Arriving in a limo, Corey discovered the ship was covered in Happy Birthday decor to honor his birthday. The highlight of the trip was swimming in the Bahamas with a large barracuda.

A favorite adventure for Corey was hand-feeding sharks at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Corey enjoyed summers at Camp Wonder, a camp for children with severe skin diseases, where he swam in a pool for the first time.

Nicknamed "Coreman" because of the adversity he faced in his life, his greatest desire was to eventually become a "good father."

Corey is survived by his mother, Lana Coil, of Grass Valley; siblings Alex Coil and Brandi Coil, of Grass Valley; grandparents Lee Coil, of Grass Valley, Frank and Terri Silveria, of Fairfield; uncles Robert Coil, of Grass Valley, Darwin Coil, of Yuba City, aunt Tamar Coil, of Oakland; many cousins, friends and his dog, Oliver.
