William C. Hayes Sr., 72, of Caseyville, formerly of East St. Louis, died Monday (February 26, 1979) at Memorial Hospital, Belleville.

Services will be at 1 P.M. Thursday at Kurrus Funeral Home Belleville, where friends are calling. Masonic services will be at 8 P.M. today.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Venice Barbee Hayes; sons William C. Jr. of Collinsville and Walter L. of Granite City; a daughter, Mrs. James (Virginia) Braml of Spring, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Daisy Gillison of East. St. Louis; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was the owner of Hayes Insurance Agency, Caseyville and East St. Louis; a member of First Baptist Church of Caseyville, East Lodge 504 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Ainad Temple, Queen City Chapter 697 Order of the Eastern Star; the Greater St. Louis Bowling Association and the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army; a council member of Christian Welfare and Oliver C. Anderson hospitals; a trustee of the St. Clair County United Way; past secretary and local founder of the Independent Insurance Agents; and a armed forces veteran.
