Drayton L. Connell died yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock, after a long and continued illness. The cause of his death was Bright’s disease. He was born and raised in Dubuque. After passing through Dubuque public schools, he attended college at Evanston, Ill., in which he graduated with honors. Returning to Dubuque he joined his brother in preparing a set of abstract books for this county, and afterwards bought out his brother and continued in partnership with Mr. W. S. Wright. About one year ago he became very ill from the disease which caused his death and went to Philadelphia for treatment, where several operations were performed, but none proved satisfactory. He continued to grow worse in health. A few months ago his mother went to Philadelphia and brought him home, where he remained under her care and that of his relatives and friends until he died. He would have been thirty years old if he had lived to the 23d of next June. He leaves behind him a devoted and sorrowing mother, two sister, Mrs. P. W. Crawford and Mrs. H. B. Walt, and two brother, John E. and Taylor J. , all residing in Dubuque. The deceased was a brilliant young man, with a promising future and it is lamentable that such lives are sacrificed to the fell destroyer.

The funeral takes place on Saturday. Services will be held in the Universalist Church.
