Ionia Daily Sentinel – Friday, 20 November 1903
Caroline, wife of Monroe B. Winchell, died about 7 o'clock last evening. She had been in failing health for a year or two, but was taken severely ill on Wednesday night, and sunk rapidly to the end, the cause of death being given as heart disease.
Her age was 56, and she was a daughter of John Moffat, of Bowne, Kent County.
She was married to Mr. Winchell soon after he came here, about forty years ago. Since their marriage their home has been in Ionia, or in the immediate vicinity, it being for a considerable part of the time on their farm about one and a half miles north-east of city.
She leaves six children: Walter, an officer in the State Reformatory; George, taking a course in medical department at Ann Arbor; Miss Mildred, Ionia; Clarence G., a dentist of this city; Laura, wife of Ernest Dodds, Detroit; Miss Mary at home.
She was a most estimable woman, enjoying the respect and confidence of a wide circle of friends, by whom she will be greatly missed and mourned.
Funeral tomorrow afternoon, at 2 o'clock, at family residence, 360 North Jackson.
