DIED LAST NIGHT
Was Nearly Eighty Years of Age - Had Been Ill For Some Time
Daniel Baumgartner, a well-known, aged resident of Berne, father of Deputy Auditor Paul Baumgartner of this city, died last night between eight and nine o'clock at his home in Berne.
He had been ailing for some time of heart trouble and dropsy, and it was known that death could not be far distant. The son, Paul, of this city, with others of his children were with him when he passed away.
Had he lived until next August, he would have been eighty years of age. He was born in Switzerland, but came to America nearly sixty years ago. He settled first in Ohio, and later came to Berne, this county, and also lived in Michigan at various times.
He was twice married. His first wife died about forty years ago. His second wife, and son, Alex, by the latter marriage, survive, also the following children by the first marriage: Peter, of Newville; Daniel, of Dayton, Ohio; Jacob, Chattanooga, Ohio; Samuel, Pratum, Oregon; Paul, of this city. A daughter, Mrs. Anna Beitler, died about six years ago.
The funeral will be held Sunday morning at eleven o'clock from the Pleasant Valley church, near Berne, and burial will take place in the churchyard cemetery.
