Wife of Valentine Herman Biggle (10 May 1801 in Saxe, Germany - 22 Jan 1883 in Miner, South Dakota. Mary & Valentine Biggle emigrated to the United States in 1853 and lived in PA, IA, & SD. Mary moved to Washington after the death of her husband in 1883 and lived with her daughter Amelia Fitch



Mrs. Mary Biggle Leaves Many Descendants,
Including Great-Great-Grandchildren

After passing her 96th birthday on the 31st of October, Mrs. Mary Biggle died yesterday at the home of her son, H. Biggle, 3602 East G street of old age. She was born in Saxon, Germany October 31, 1816, her maiden name being Mary Regina Stumps. She married Valentine Biggle and they came to the United States in 1853, locating in York Pa., where they lived several years, removing to Volga City, IA., to live for 10 years, and to Carthage, S. D., where Mr. Biggle died in 1881. After that Mrs. Biggle lived with her daughter in Spokane seven years and came to Tacoma only seven months ago.
Until the past years Mrs. Biggle has enjoyed excellent health and was an active woman in domestic affairs. She was confined to her bed only a few days before her death. In her religious life she was formerly a member of the Evangelical Lutheran church, but 35 years ago joined the Methodist church. Mrs. Biggle is survived by one daughter Mrs. Augusta Fitch, of Spokane; Two sons, C. B. Biggle of Waterloo, Ia., and H. Biggle of Tacoma; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral was held from the residence this afternoon, Rev. Bates officiating. The interment was in Tacoma cemetery.
