Services are planned at Greenwood Mortuary on Thursday, September 10, 1998 at 10 a.m. She was a retired La Mesa resident who died Sept. 5, 1998 at her residence. Burial Greenwood Memorial Park. Her age was 79. Mrs. Porter, a native of Fayetteville, Arkansas was married to Robert H. Porter at Neosho, Missouri in 1940. They arrived in San Diego during 1941 and moved to La Mesa in 1952. Mrs. Porter worked for Safeway Food Stores for 23 years, retiring during 1974 as a non-food clerk. She was member of the La Mesa United Methodist Church, Retail Clerk Retirees, American Association of Retired People, Zoological Society and a lifetime member of the Genealogical Society. She was also active in ADARA, and as a volunteer worker for Alzheimer Day Care Center of San Diego for 5 years. Mrs. Porter one of twelve children, is survived by her husband Robert, son Thomas L. of Danville, CA, sisters Bertha Tait of San Diego and Katherine Lehman of Santa Ana, CA, brother Edward McCormick of Fayeville, AR, William McCormick of Orange, CA and Henry McCormick of Silome Springs, AR, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. The family suggests donations to ADARA or Alzheimer Day Care Center in lieu of flowers.
