APRIL 18, 1928 — DEC. 29, 2011

Margaret G. Evans, 83, of Bloomington, died at her residence Thursday, December 29, 2011, following a lengthy illness. She was born on April 18, 1928, in Monroe County, the daughter of Henry Walter and Mabel (Smith) Deckard. She graduated from Smithville High School in 1946 and did her part during the war effort, working at RCA in the summer of her junior and senior years of high school. She worked at Sarkes Tarzian Corp. for 17 years and retired from the Herald-Times after 27 years of service.

Margaret was a member of the Bloomington Free Methodist Church since 1959, where she had taught Sunday School and been an active member of the Women's Missionary International. She also enjoyed sewing and was in a sewing group at church that made baby quilts and bibs for the Crisis Pregnancy Center. She loved traveling, reading and fishing with her husband and having fish fries for their Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her husband, George C. Evans of Bloomington; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Ann Johnson of Spring Hill, FL; stepson and daughter-in-law, Charles and Connie Evans of Franklin, IN; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Gary Todd of Unionville; her grandson, Jeffrey L. (wife Louise) Johnson of Florida; one step-grandson, Kevin (wife Danielle) Todd of Bloomington; two step-granddaughters, Jennifer Powers of Franklin and Tammy Todd of Bloomington; four great-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, two step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn Sturgeon of Bloomington; and one brother and sister-in-law, Leslie and Nancy Deckard of Bloomington; two sisters-in-law, Frances Deckard and Juanita Deckard of Bloomington; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Dale Deckard, Doyle Deckard, Lloyd Deckard and infant brother, Stanley Deckard; and one infant sister, Mildred Jean Deckard.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2012, at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old St. Rd. 37, with Rev. Mel Nead officiating. Burial will be at Burgoon Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
